The Malta International Fireworks Festival 2022 will be starting off on the 20th April 2022, as opposed to the 17th April 2022, as was previously announced.
The Malta Tourism Authority has taken this decision, following adverse weather conditions which have been forecast for the upcoming days and which might have impacted the health and safety of the participants, the members of staff involved in the organisation and all those attending the various displays of the event.
The new dates, and updated locations of the Malta International Fireworks Festival 2022 are as follows:
- 20th April 2022 – Ghadira Bay, Mellieha
- 22nd April 2022 – Ingraw Area, Mellieha
- 23rd April 2022 – Hondoq Bay, Gozo
- 26th April 2022 – Marsascala
- 29th April 2022 – Mqabba
- 30th April 2022 – Grand Harbour, Valletta
- 30th April 2022 – Mechanical Ground Fireworks Festival, organised by Floriana Local Council in Collaboration with the MTA, on the Granaries, in Floriana
Further information about traffic and public transport arrangements and road closures will be communicated closer to each date, on the event’s social media page ( facebook.com/maltafireworks).
The Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority are pleased to announce that the 21st edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival will be taking place on seven nights between Sunday 17th April and Saturday 30th April 2022. Each night promises to be a beautiful display of colour and coordination, and the closing night is bound to be a true spectacle.
The festival also has a competitive edge! Each year, the festival hosts a Pyromusical competition, which means that the fireworks are designed to match the rhythm of a musical number! Awards are then distributed to the most impressive displays.
The local village festaThere is no better way to mingle with the locals than at the Maltese village festa (or feast). The Maltese love their patron saints and the village festas, being primarily a religious celebration, are held in their honour every year.
Each village celebrates a different patron saint or two depending on the number of churches in the locality. Each church is dedicated to a different saint. For this reason, some villages celebrate more than one festa per year.
Organised by the village band clubs and the parish members , the village festa is an event that all stakeholders work throughout the year to put together.
The competition between the band clubs can be quite fierce when it comes to the organisation of decorations and the fireworks shows, even if there is only one festa in the village.
It gets even tougher when the locality celebrates two different patron saints, each honoured by an individual band club.
The festas are held over the summer months. This is a time of great merriment for the local community coupled with a lot of traditions and customs and things can get really noisy and loud 😊
