Colours of Malta plans events in Malta all year. April to June and September to November are the strongest months for outdoor evenings and full-day activities, and winter suits programmes planned indoors.

Spring in Malta, April to June

In spring the sea is calm, though still too cold for swimming, and the countryside is green and in blossom.

It is the start of the al fresco dining season, with good weather for outdoor activities by the sea and in the countryside.

Spring welcomes the most significant dates in the Roman Catholic calendar – namely the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. In Malta, the religious rituals observed during Holy Week are faithfully attended by the locals.

Summer in Malta, July and August

Malta is the sunniest country in Europe, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

Summer brings beach parties, outdoor concerts and festivals.

Autumn in Malta, September to November

In autumn the air is cooler, but the sea stays warm enough for swimming.

The beaches are quieter, as people are back at work and children are in school.

Autumn is mild, and locals spend time in the countryside and on the coast before winter.

Winter in Malta, December to March

Malta’s winter is mild compared with mainland Europe.

Even in the middle of icy winter elsewhere in Europe you will find temperatures around a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius (60 Fahrenheit). While it’s true that there are days with strong winds and somewhat regular rain, the climate in Malta balances this with stable temperatures made for being outdoors.

Outside the beach season there is still plenty to see in Malta, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the old streets of Valletta and Mdina, and the cliffs and salt pans of Gozo.

Winter is a good season for country hikes and outdoor activities.

As for the theatre scene, local theatres are bustling with local productions and musical talent every weekend.
